About this Job:


Your daily responsibilites may include, but are not limited to, the following: 


  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings and sketches to determine specifications and calculate requirements;
  • Prepare layouts in conformance to building codes;
  • Using measuring tools, measure, cut, shape, assemble and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials; 
  • Build foundations; 
  • Install floor beams, lay subflooring, erect walls, and roof systems; 
  • Fit and install windows, doors, stairs, mouldings and hardware;
  • Maintain, repair and renovate residences and wooden structures in mills, mines, hospitals, industrial plants and other establishments;
  • Inspect workplaces for safety or health hazards;
  • Utilize hand and power tools;
  • Follow emergency and safety procedures;
  • Operate machinery;
  • Remove and replace defective parts;
  • Monitor engine/machinery and equipment indicators;
  • Cut materials using power tools or by hand;
  • Ensure health and safety regulations are followed; and
  • Study drawings and specifications to determine the layout of the installation and materials required;
  • Handling heavy loads (lifting up to 100lbs);
  • Combination of sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, and kneeling;  and
  • Tight deadlines

Additional Skills:

  • Prepare tenders and quotations;
  • Schedule and co-ordinate work on sites;
  • Survey building locations and levels;
  • Instruct apprentices;
  • Supervise other workers;
  • Operate CADD and other computer software systems;
  • Estimate costs and materials; and
  • Maintain clean and safe work environment.

Major Construction Area –  RESIDENTIAL:

  • Custom Home Building
  • Renovations;
  • Historical Restoration;
  • Maintenance and Repair;
  • Equipment/Machinery operation; and
  • Millwork/pre-fab shopwork;





A qualified candidate will have the following attributes: 

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;

  • Client focus; 
  • Initiative; and 
  • Ability to supervise 1 to 2 people



  • Carpenter Trade Certification; or Equivalent Certification


  • Tools (Power & Hand)
  • PPE (Personal Protection Equipment): Steel-toed safety boots, Hard Hat, Safety glasses/goggles

Transportation Information:

  • Owns vehicle (is able to get from point A to point B on their own); and 
  • Valid driver’s licence (minimum G2 level)


  • College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 3 months to less than 1 year; or equivalent experience.
Salary: 22 - 30 CAD/month
Experience: 2 - 5
